Artist Development
greenroom is one of Europe’s leading centres for developing extraordinary new performance, nurturing and presenting emerging creative talent in visual performance, live art, dance, installation and spoken word.
greenroom events include contemporary theatre and dance, comedy, music and sound, installations, exhibitions, club nights and creative events that wonderfully defy definition.
greenroom is committed to providing a space where emerging artists can develop, grow and succeed; a space where raw talent is nurtured; a focal point for encouraging creative individuals and their ideas.
greenroom offers a number of initiatives for emerging artists:
Resident Artist
A year long paid residency with support from all areas of greenroom. The resident artist is appointed through a selection process – details can be found here when we are recruiting.
Ready?
Ready? is a new short-term residency scheme for artists who are somewhere between ‘emerging’ and ‘established’. The residencies will culminate in four new works that will be presented here at greenroom throughout 2007, with a view to tour into 2008.
Associate Artists
An ongoing scheme providing access to facilities and resulting in creative partnerships. Many associate artists have participated in other greenroom initiatives.
emergency
An opportunity for North West artists to present a short piece of new performance in a packed two day event that attracts large audiences. The event takes place each late September or early October and the deadline for inclusion is early July/August. In partnership with hÅb.
Method Lab
Artists receive a package of support including a small commission, rehearsal space, mentoring, peer support and access to technical resources in order to present the developed piece at the Method Lab showcase in April. Artists are selected through the emergency platform, and must present work at emergency to be eligible for Method Lab selection. In partnership with hÅb.
Turn
An open submission dance platform for North West dancers and dance-makers aged 18 and above. North West based dancers or dance-makers looking for an opportunity to present performance work are invited to submit proposals of finished pieces or excerpts of dance, works in progress and sited dance performances in and around greenroom building, for a new a micro-festival.
Instant Win
Present a creative idea to a panel (and an audience) in one minute to win a £500 commission and a package of support, plus a slot in the greenroom programme. Instant Win usually takes place in February and is split over two evenings – one for pitches from students and one from non-students!
Breathing Space
Breathing Space commissions artists to explore and experiment with nascent ideas or work outside of their usual artistic practice. Breathing Space is a national commissioning and touring project that seeks to bring innovative new live art and performance to audiences across the UK and beyond. Initiated by Arnolfini (Bristol), and partnered with greenroom (Manchester), Tramway (Glasgow) and The Junction (Cambridge).
Programming
greenroom also programmes new performance from across the UK and from all parts of the world, and supports this work with short residencies, workshops and creative projects, discussion events and collaborations with other arts organisations.
