Going Green

Manchester is my Planet

greenroom has gone Green!

We have done this because there are lots of ways to cut down on energy use, help people and save money.

This is what we are doing right now, but please check back as we explore more ways to be Eco Conscious.

  • We use energy saving bulbs wherever we can.
  • We use Halogen bulbs on a dimmer switch in the bar which reduces energy use by 70%.
  • We print flyers and posters on recycled paper and use vegetable based ink where possible.
  • All our office paper is 100% recycled.
  • We use the ECO font which uses 15% less ink on all internal letters, emails and print
  • We stock Organic and Fair Trade products in the Bar.
  • Our hand towels and toilet roll is 100% recycled.
  • We have no parking facilities and encourage customers and staff to use public transport.
  • We recycle: paper, glass, plastic and batteries.
  • We pay to have all our florescent (low energy) lamps safely recycled.
  • We are heated by two brand new condensing gas boilers which have a SEDBUK Category A Rating.
  • Our theatre space is semi underground, as a result it requires no energy to cool it or warm it.
  • We have weights in the toilet cisterns which reduces the amount of water used in flushing.
  • Our computers do ethical calculations when we are asleep as part of IBM’s World Community Grid.
  • We buy props and donate furniture to The Wesley who supply furniture, domestic appliances, household goods and clothing at the lowest possible prices to those in greatest need from all over the City of Manchester.
  • Our recycling is managed by emerge, one of the original pioneers of waste recycling in Manchester. emerge is a social enterprise with over 10 years experience of empowering individuals, businesses and communities to reduce, re-use and recycle. They run a recycling and environmental blog and are always looking for content. To find out more click here.
  • We have developed a working relationship with Manchester is my Planet. Since 2005, Manchester is my Planet has been working in partnership with Local Authorities, universities, businesses and over 20,000 individuals towards a low carbon future for our region.
