‘poolside emergency: Call for Proposals

co-produced by the Bluecoat, greenroom and hÅb in association with LANWest.

Saturday 11 June 2011, from 12noon – 9pm approximately

Returning to the Bluecoat for its second frenetic year, ‘poolside emergency is now inviting artists to submit proposals of work for inclusion in June’s one day platform of new performance.

Last year our artists were crushed by a giant knitted boulder, fed soup by an eating machine and were responsible for ending over 70 imaginary love affairs from the front seat of a car parked in the Bluecoat courtyard. This year we intend to be even more outlandish so join us on Saturday 11 June for this free festival of the beautiful and the bonkers, the challenging and the witty.

Artists working in live art, performance, experimental theatre, contemporary dance, installation, sound art, intervention and interdisciplinary arts are invited to submit proposals of new work and works in progress.

‘poolside emergency particularly welcomes, inventive uses of space including limited capacity, intervention and site-sensitive work alongside short studio-based pieces.

For full information and to download proposal forms visit poolside.posterous.com

Deadline: 6pm, Friday 8 April 2011

-ISM commission: Call for Proposals

greenroom is delighted to announce a £5,000 commission, made possible by a new partnership with leading law firm Cobbetts LLP, Chelsea Theatre (London) and The Basement (Brighton).

IS THE AGE OF THE –ISM DEAD?

Ageism, sexism, heterosexism… hangovers of a bygone era?
Feminism, multiculturalism, altruism, utilitarianism… vital struggles in a brave new world?

We joke and rant about the foibles of the Nanny State, but are we such a sophisticated society that we don’t feel the need to take action?
Is the legacy of the ‘60’s generation who stood up and fought against the system now defunct?
When equal pay won’t be equal till 2067 and the BNP is gaining seats in the European Parliament, is there a renewed place for good old fashioned campaigning values in Coalition Britain?

greenroom is joining forces with Chelsea Theatre (London), The Basement (Brighton) and Cobbetts LLP to create a new open commission to be presented at these three innovative arts venues in autumn/winter 2011.

This commission is seeking a new contemporary performance work made in response to the provocation above by artists or artist-groups with a proven track record of creating and showing work. We may just be playing devil’s advocate with our questions, and we’re certainly looking for proposals that challenge the preconceived… The commission will consider a wide definition of performance using new language born out of a fusion of different theatre styles and artistic disciplines.

The £5,000 commission should cover all fees and production costs to include the premiere in Manchester. Additional fee and expenses (subject to negotiation) is available for the subsequent presentation of the work in Brighton and London.
