Dave Haslam, journalist, author, academic and legendary Haçienda DJ, returns with Close Up With… a series of exclusive opportunities to get up close and personal with musicians, writers and actors, to discuss their life and work.
This autumn’s first guest is Terry Hall, the iconic frontman of The Specials. Back in the late 1970s, Terry Hall established himself with The Specials as a unique voice and an enigmatic performer; he left The Specials in 1981, shortly after their Number One single Ghost Town. His bands since have included the Fun Boy Three and The Colourfield; he’s also worked with the likes of Gorillaz, The Dub Pistols, Sinead O’Connor and Toots and the Maytals.
After years of rumour, a reactivated The Specials began touring again in 2009, playing Glastonbury and more recently Japan, America and elsewhere. Despite the thirty year gap since their first shows, the reformed band’s gigs have been acclaimed, with Terry Hall still at his laconic, entertaining best.
Following the conversation with Dave Haslam, Hall will take questions from the audience.
Close Up With… will last approximately 90 minutes, an official after-party in our bar follows.
This is one of a series of Close Up With… events in autumn 2010.
