Missed the Fringe? Come to greenroom’s very own micro festival.
Join us from Friday at 5pm as emergency takes over every space at greenroom: performance space, bar, mezzanine, the workspace, and even in the lift! For 36 frantic hours of over 40 short pieces of contemporary performance, live art and intervention, a veritable lucky dip – from the contemplative to the downright bonkers!
The emergency selection process is now complete and this year we are attempting to shoehorn some 44 pieces into a day and a half! In our annual performance lucky-dip expect everything from a human recycling bin to a golden handshake; a Yeti to a whittler; a cake demonstration to a noisy protest march.
A bittersweet tale of love and cakes in Auschwitz and a glimpse of 1920’s decadent Weimar Berlin…Collages of words and sounds, cut-up and left-over, sampled and remixed from sitcoms and dreams…from Debrette to drag in, not one, but two explorations of the meaning of what it is to be ladylike…and a silent comedian is followed by a glittering finale.
Join us for this extraordinary free marathon of the bizarre and the beautiful, the glamorous and the thought-provoking – and remember, emergency performance is like buses - if you don’t like the look of one, don’t worry, there’ll be another one along in 20 minutes!
emergency, greenroom’s ‘must-see’ trade-mark annual open platform event, for contemporary performance, dance, live art, intervention and installation, encompassing greenroom’s support for emerging artists working with new, unusual, untried and untested ideas, returns for its 8th manic year running.
As an audience member, what you get is back to back performance: a marathon of new, fresh, contemporary ideas played out for the first time in front of an audience. It’s anything but ordinary. Entirely new performances ranging from just 5 minutes to half and hour, in a day and a half – and all for free.
No advanced booking is required – although this year promises to be extremely busy, and some shows are bound to have limited capacity, so turning up early is always advisable.
emergency is a treat for anyone with an appetite for the unusual: ‘emergency’s not for the faint-hearted; the work is fresh and challenging, and there will definitely be something you’ve never seen before. If you have an ounce of creative curiosity then this event’s definitely for you…. and not all of the work takes itself seriously, some of it’s even funny!’. greenroom’s Artistic Director, Garfield Allen.
