Don’t miss it …. Once a month on a Wednesday night…

This month ‘S’Not P’Inc. presents a COUNTRY & WESTERN night… YEEHAW:

ShimeonIntroducing… SHIMEON

Shimeon’s music is inspired by “poetry and prose, spirituality, philosophy, theology and the most controversial of all ideology – love.” BBC Manchester. He play guitars, writes the songs and is the main vocalist, he also plays everything else on recordings. For live performances Tim Fisher plays the drums, Joyce Sutherland is backing vocalist (also on records) and various players play bass guitar.

Alexis Mclean ALEXIS MCLEAN

Alexis describes her sound as good honest music, this still independent artist; “…it’s one of the world’s great mysteries why Alexis McLean is without a record deal or management at the moment.”  (Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour, BBC6 Music, 25/11/07), is a talent songwriter of beautiful country songs.

“A powerful bluesy country voice that seems to come from thousands of miles away, maybe even from a different time… hopefully one day Alexis will be knocking on the gates of Nashville, incredibly, showing THEM how it’s done.” Manchester Music

“McLean’s voice dances over the various Americana treats with true abandon - It’s a sound with massive appeal, whether it be lovers on the streets of Nashville, line dancing bars or kids sat around in basement clubs. ‘Takin’ It Easy’ may sound like an obvious piece of advice but for all accounts, it’s the sound of something that could potentially be massive…” Manuel Ecostos.

“A fantastic songwriter. She writes simple, classic, beautiful country songs” Guy Garvey of Elbow, BBC6 Music.

ASH MOUNTAIN

Ash Mountain are the band that your embarrassing uncle plays in, when he’s not playing his Gram Parsons LPs’ at full volume, except that the first time you go to see them play you’re knocked off your feet with surprise.

A: they’re bloody awesome, and B: they’ve recruited the barmaid from The Swan to sing with them, simultaneously explaining why your auntie disapproves of the whole band project, and stunning you into hallowed silence with her deep and dark, sultry soul voice.

Ash Mountain“Ash Mountain’s vocalist tells a thousand painful stories with every ‘mmmm-mmmm’. It’s a voice choked with vulnerability, but which accompanies a country-rock jig rather well indeed. Then halfway through the set, they absolutely floored us all with a song of such power that I don’t think anybody took a breath until the end. Like Tracy Chapman singing ‘Street Spirit’, it wound up and up and up until it crashed back down with a rumble of cymbal and reverb-y guitar twang, at which point you understand that if you’d bothered to look beyond the Gram Parsons records, you’d find the entire Pink Floyd back catalogue. Astonishingly good.” Manchester Music (February 6, 2008.)

Lizzie BanoffeeLIZZIE BANOFFEE

Lizzie is part of the duo Mitzi and Mabel and is an accomplished singer and writer. She is going to open up tonight for Shimeon and Ash Mountain doing her best Dolly Parton for ya.

King Street Hobo

KING STREET HOBO is Mike Kelly, his guitar and what ever else he can lay my hands on. All of King Street Hobo recordings happen at home with homemade percussion and a vocal booth made out of an old guitar case. Whats more you can give all these recordings a listen for free… “All the music I make I give out for free so if you want to check out more songs just head over to www.kingstreethobo.co.uk thanks for listening.”

Reviews: “The Hobo had heads nodding and beards stroked in folky appreciation.” Paul Walters - mymanchester.org

“This is something a bit different and the glut of male singer/songwriters currently doing the rounds shouldn’t faze this guy one iota” James Hinchcliffe - manchestermusic.co.uk

“If this was in the shops you’d buy it. The fact that it isn’t is the only crime here.” Marq Sutton

“This guy is in a class of his own, clearly taking pleasure in the performance as his fingers dance - blending blues, folk, rock and hillbilly fervor with a voice that echoes with conviction.” Steven Lalley - manchestermusic.co.uk

Enjoy!
