Cast Fest   The legacy
Lucy Adams is a visual artist and independent visual merchandiser concerned with making densely beautiful, thought provoking mixed media work in contemporary theoretical contexts. Since graduation from Manchester Metropolitan University with a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art, she has exhibited in galleries and transformed spaces around Manchester and the North West.

The Legacy was first exhibited at greenroom in June 2010, during CAST Fest, a festival of student/ graduate performance, hosted by  BA (Hons) Contemporary Performance students from Manchester Metropolitan University.

The Legacy is an ongoing palimpsest, resulting in an immersive and dream like installation work. Beginning with the inheritance of a vast collection of materials from her Grandmother, Adams recalls;

‘Her legacy to me included a good sum of money to help me finish my education and 29 pinnies, 52 scarves, 33 necklaces, over 2,000 assorted buttons, 12 umbrellas, numerous coloured balls of wool and silk threads, and a shoe collection that filled a double wardrobe – some of which were odd.’

The process of sorting these materials and refining a dense contemporary theoretical conceit resulted in several surreal installations, having undergone a vast number of changes and ideas, Adams notes;

‘This is an ongoing palimpsest document which will continue to evolve as it shifts through time – changing hands and changing status – an ongoing legacy.’
