Manchester Literature Festival presents an evening of poetry celebrating the launch of When Black is Red, a comprehensive anthology of contemporary Black British poetry.
On the night, performing their passionate and fiery verse are contributors Peter Kalu, well known on the local and national writing scene as a poet, novelist, editor, activist and playwright; Trinidad-born John Lyons, author of three collections of poetry including Cook up in a Trini Kitchen which combines poems, recipes, and artwork; Guyana-born Grace Nichols who has published several collections including I is a Long Memoried Woman, which won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, The Fat Black Woman’s Poems and most recently I Have Crossed an Ocean: Selected Poems; and finally acclaimed poet and live artist, Seni Seneviratne whose collection Wild Cinnamon and Winter Skin has been described as ‘a virtual masterclass between covers’.
