Ben Faulks/Companions of Pram

ben faulks Ben Faulks is a Cornish born artist who’s currently based in Manchester. He works as an actor, musician, writer, educational artist and undertakes solo projects as well as collaborative/ensemble work.

Prior
Lived in Cornwall for 18 years then moved to Wakefield to study Theatre Acting at Bretton Hall, graduated in 2001 & moved to Manchester in search of work where he started devising theatre shows & collaborating with other artists.

Between 2003 – 06 worked from the greenroom under the name of Johnothan Pram developing three solo works based upon the idea of the modern day world getting the better of its unassuming inhabitants, the work went on to tour regionally, nationally, internationally & from this point on he was a Companion of Pram.

In 2006 the success of an Arts Council Funding bid meant that a whole new set of projects could be undertaken and 2007 saw the results:

The Endurance

  • Come forth People of the City, under the cover of Night: A collaboration with Jonathan McGrath of Ikebana Performance, for a site-specific, choral based, late night promenade performance in and around Manchester Town Hall as part of the Manchester International Festival 2007.

  • The Trampoline Orchestra: A Research and Development project commissioned by the Nuffield Theatre to investigate the idea of musical Trampolines that produce a note/sound each time you bounce up and down. A 4 week ensemble affair undertaken in September 2007.

Present

  • Continuing to work with the greenroom & very happy to be an associate artist.
  • Further developing & producing The Trampoline Orchestra with help from the Nuffield Theatre and the Arches with an aim to tour nationally in Spring 2009. The Trampoline Orchestra will show as part of the Arches Theatre Festival April 2008.
  • A future run in the Royal Exchange Studio for The Endurance, in Autumn 2008
  • Developing outdoor-walkabout shows for 2008 Street Theatre Festivals under the company name Plunge! Boom! For more info go to www.plungeboom.com.
  • Continuing to develop shows for the Story Makers Theatre with Mimi Faulks. The Storymakers Theatre is a self-contained portable theatre that up to 18 audience members climb into for an interactive thorough storytelling experience. For more information go to www.anothercuriousidea.com.
  • Continuing to develop The Butcher, the Baker & the Candlestick Maker, a musical vaudeville show about a dilapidated trades troupe on an erroneous sea faring escapade.
